1World Sports Equipment Drive 12/10

1World Sports needs your old equipment!

Their annual hockey equipment drive will take place on Saturday, December 10th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Winnetka Ice Arena at 490 Hibbard Rd. They need everything from skates to gloves and sticks to equip athletes for the 2012 Blackhawks “Event to Inspire”.

Last year, 60 kids from the Chicago Housing Authority experienced a day of Hockey they’ll never forget. This year, they plan on bringing back even more kids, so your donations are greatly appreciated and will help reward kids who are doing well in school and in sports with this day on the ice.

1World Sports will also accept monetary donations. One option is sponsoring a child for $50, which will give them all the equipment they’ll need for their big day on the ice. Each person who donates $50 will receive a photo and thank you letter from the child they’re helping. Click here to purchase!

Join 1World Sports on Saturday, December 10th to drop off old equipment, meet the 1World Sports team and watch the “Volunteer of the Year” presentation at noon!

Have a Great Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Sean Curran New Captain

Congratulations to Sean Curran, the new captain of Connecticut College men’s Hockey team.
Along with that honor Sean was also awarded the MVP trophy for this passed season. Sean Curran was part of the Delaney hockey program growing up!

Forgotten Miracle

Hockey runs in Kevin Delaney’s blood. He comes from a long standing hockey tradition.

His uncle Jack Riley coached at West Point for more than 35 years and Hockey history by coaching the United States to the gold medal at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. (going undefeated in winning the country’s first Olympic gold medal and second ever)

Riley was inducted in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979, and the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1998. He is a two-time winner of the Lester Patrick Trophy, in 1986 (as a coach) and 2002 (as a member of the Olympic gold medal-winning United States hockey team of 1960).

In the 60′s, Riley ran the Eastern Hockey Clinic (a hockey camp for high school age players) in Worcester, MA. The camp had many NHL players as coaches, including, among others, John Ferguson, Tommy Williams (the only American NHL player at the time), Jean Ratelle, and Charlie Hodge.

Rostenkowski Decides on Air Force

Tornado’s Rostenkowski decides on Air Force

January 6, 2011

In his second season with the Tornado, defenseman Tyler Rostenkowski has five points through 28 games.

The Texas Tornado has announced that defenseman Tyler Rostenkowski has accepted a scholarship offer to attend and play hockey the Air Force Academy beginning in the fall of 2012.

Rostenkowski, 17, becomes the second player on the Tornado roster who’s committed to an NCAA Division I school, joining forwardDavid Rigatti, who will attend Robert Morris University. The Bloomingdale, Ill., native is in his second year with Texas and is the second youngest player on the roster.

“I really enjoyed my visit to Air Force and I was so impressed with the facilities and coaching staff,” said an elated Rostenkowski. “Academically and athletically, I think it’s one of the best institutions in the country, so I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity.

“A lot credit has to go to (Tornado head coach) Tony Curtale and the coaching staff here in Texas because I feel I’ve developed a lot since coming here from Culver (Military Academy) as a young 16-year-old back in 2009.”

Rostenkowski is in his second season with the Tornado. He played in 32 games last year with Texas, scoring nine points. This season, Rostenkowski has played in 28 games, scoring five points, and is third on the team with a plus-6 rating.

“We’re very happy and proud of Tyler with his collegiate commitment,” said Curtale. “He should be a great fit for Air Force. (Falcons) head coach Frank Serratore does a great job with that program and really believes in the type of player he gets from the North American Hockey League. He’s getting a guy in Tyler who has leadership qualities written all over him and will be a nice addition to their team.”

According to Curtale, Rostenkowski has improved remarkably in his defensive game as he now prepares for the collegiate level.

“He’s more aware of what goes on in a hockey game and has really accepted a leadership role along the blue line, so we’ve seen a nice and natural progression out of him,” said the coach.

Rostenkowski won’t be the first Tornado player to play at the Air Force Academy. Former Texas players Brian Gineo (2001-02) andJohn Kruse (2007-08) also went to Air Force.

Under the direction of Serratore, who’s in his 14th season, the Falcons are competing in their 43rd season of Division I hockey. Serratore is the winningest coach in Air Force hockey history and has led the Falcons to three straight league championships and NCAA tournament appearances.

Air Force currently has the most NAHL graduates on its roster (20) than any other team in NCAA hockey.
